I just popped my ear and it hurts like hell! I dont know why!?

So I have allergies so i have been sniffling all day. I just sniffled and my ears did that weird thing where you have to pop them. I tried but my left one would not pop. When it did it made a slight high pitched noise like air being released from a balloon. Now it hurts so bad I cant do anything. The hearing seems to be ok just a little muffled. I have had no ear infections or anything to cause damage in the past few weeks. What did I do? And how do I get it to stop hurting?
